"an addicting read"
Mackenzie Lyons has worked hard to be promoted to
detective,
and she has worked equally hard to be taken seriously by
her
superiors and fellow officers in Chicago's Southside. When
Mackenzie is sent on a call to investigate a brutal murder,
a high profile case lands in her lap. After seeing the torn
and degraded condition of the body she is determined to
bring the murderer to justice. The forensic evidence points
to the death being caused by a large canine so Mackenzie
sets out to question Rafael Stone, founder of the Lykos
Institute and head of the Stone Corporation. The Lykos
Institute is a research facility focused on the study of
canine breeds. Because Rafael's company is known to use
trained guard dogs, Mackenzie pays a visit to get some
information from the illusive philanthropist. What begins
as
a professional consultation quickly escalates into a full
fledged investigation, with Rafael Stone as the prime
suspect. When another victim turns up the political heat is
on the department to solve the case; the fact that she
cannot keep her mind on business whenever she is in the
same
room with this tall, dark and mysterious man is not helping
matters in the least. Rafe is not responsible for the murders but he just may
know
who is. But can he convince the enticing detective Lyons
without revealing himself, the pack alpha, and jeopardizing
the mission of the Lykos Institute? Can Mackenzie believe
that a man that turns her inside out can possibly be
responsible for such heinous crimes? She'll have to follow
this through to the end, and hope she doesn't lose her
heart, and career in the process. LYCAN INSTINCT is a fast paced, edgy read from debut author
Brandi Broughton.
The story features a well paced and carefully constructed
plot that immediately pulls the reader in. The heroine is
tough, self confident and has a painful past that also
allows her to be vulnerable. Readers will enjoy watching
the
sexy and rather arrogant hero become so infatuated that he
is willing to risk his heart and responsibilities for a
chance at happiness. The characters' clever banter,
emotional turmoil and tangible sexual tension; along with
the non-stop action, combine to provide an addicting read
that will have you turning pages well into the night. Throw
a cast of intriguing supporting characters into the mix and
I for one cannot wait to see what the sexy Stone brothers,
and Officer Cooper, Mackenzie's playboy partner, have in
store when they get the chance to tell their stories.
