"Interesting mix of angels and mortals!"
Bliss, one of God's angels, is not exceptionally happy
with his latest assignment. Finally have been promoted
from being a guardian angel, he's now been in charge of
one. And not just any guardian angel, but Echo, one that
didn't do a very good job with her last human, not to
mention she doesn't speak and is just a general pain. Echo
has been known to petition for all sorts of things, from
allowing cobwebs in heaven to introducing new species of
animals. So it's fairly obvious just why Bliss is not
exactly happy about this. Their assignment is in the
boomtown of Silver City, Idaho back in the late 1800's.
Somehow or other, Echo has managed to get the soul of the
man she was guardian of into the body of a newborn baby in
this den of iniquity and the two of them are to watch over
the man's widow and children. Newly widowed Ember Musgrave is not in the best of
circumstances. She's living in a tenement with her two
children and no longer has the money to make ends meet.
Having just found out her husband has an inheritance
coming, Ember decides she will just have to lie and take
her family to the farm. Of course, Uncle Sydney wrote the
will so only Ember's husband or his brother could inherit.
Having no choice, Ember will just have to state her
husband died en-route to Idaho. Imagine her surprise when
she finally arrives at the farm with her children, just to
find out her husband's uncle sold the farm right before he
died to Professor Snowden Alasdair Smith. The professor
has taken possession of the farm, along with his motley
crew of Reggie, a "supposed" lawyer, Olympia, a "supposed"
spiritualist, and Aunt Frances, nothing more than a sot.
With some divine intervention, the professor decides to
allow the widow and children to remain at the farm in
exchange for their taking care of the animals and Ember
doing the cooking. However, there is an immediate
attraction between the professor and Ember. Will anything come of the attraction between Ember and the
professor? Exactly who and what are these group of people
living on the farm? Will Bliss and Echo be able to make
everything come out in the end in this wicked boomtown? MAGNETISM is a really funny paranormal romance set in the
Old West. Shannah Biondine has once again managed to
captivate me during the reading of this story. Shannah
always manages to bring the Old West to life in her
stories, and this one is no exception. From the "soiled
doves" displaying their wares on the main street of Silver
City to the saloons and buckboards, everything is very
realistic. The interaction between Bliss and Echo is
hilarious, with Bliss trying to control his "charge". And
I loved the way the two children and Ember managed to worm
their way into the professor's heart, in spite of
everything the man does to stop it. While Western Romances
may not be favorite, I have to admit to thoroughly
enjoying this one and I can't wait for the sequel to come
out. I highly recommend MAGNETISM to any lovers of
romance!
