"an engrossing futuristic which is hot and steamy"
she then found her fiancé in the arms of her sister,
Caressa. Needless to say, she wasn't getting married
anytime soon to Dr. Richard Tanner. So, finding a
pregnant, alien man on her doorstep was just another
episode in the way her life had been going recently. When
Kendall realizes that the alien man is about to give birth,
her medical training kicks in and she helps him deliver
beautiful twin babies. The babies are named Spark and
Ember and the man is called Flame. Kendall is awestruck as she listens to his story. Flame is
from the planet Testrious. A planet ruled by women where a
man's role is to be a worker, child-bearer and protector.
The men are altered to allow them to carry a child to
term. The female children are protected and given a life
of ease and plenty, while the male children are almost
forgotten. The planet is governed by five ruling Houses: the House of
Sky, the House of Land, the House of Wind, the House of
Ice, and the House of Fire. Only female children have the
ability to control the elements from which their house is
named. Flame is an oddity as he is the only male known to
have the ability to control Fire. He can control it and
use it for whatever purpose he wants. His mother, Tessela, wants power and she contracts him to
be the mate of Catla, the head of the House of Ice. When
Catla is killed and Tessela becomes head of both Houses,
Flame learns that his children are in danger. Flame flees
Testrious with the help of his father, Alonzid, who tells
him to go to Earth. Kendall's heart is won by the children and she fights
against the growing love for their father. They can't have
any kind of life with the threat from the execution squad
sent to destroy Flame and his children. Will they manage to
win out over the threat of the execution squad and find
happiness? Ms. Burke has managed to write an engrossing story in just
a few short pages. I laughed out loud at some of the
humorous incidents in the story. When Flame drives for the
first time, I was laughing so hard, my family wondered what
was wrong with me. I was disappointed when the story ended
as I wanted to spend more time with Kendall and Flame.
Their story is hot and steamy and fans who like spiciness
in their reading will enjoy this tale. You will not be
disappointed as KEEPER OF THE FLAME is a wild ride and you
won't want it to end. © Copyright 2002 PNR Reviews
