"A gem of historical fantasy worth reading"
King Nicholas Rostov struggles to protect his country from
both Napoleon's troops and the Brotherhood, terrorists
threatening his country. While on a diplomatic mission, he
is saved from assassination by a hill country slave, Sera,
whom he takes home with him. Sera was captured while trying to find the thief of the
HEART OF FIRE, the ruby 'key' that hides her kingdom from
the outsiders. She must return the before winter or the
entrance will be closed and she will never be able to
return home again. She keeps her identity as princess a
secret and feels honor-bound to save Nicholas instead of
escaping. Once at Nicholas's castle, her magical powers
start growing and are at times uncontrollable. Sera is an interesting mix of naiveté and boldness and
Nicholas as king is a mix of caring and domineering male.
The secondary characters and family members add interest to
the quest. The melding of suspense, history and fantasy
makes HEART OF FIRE a story to be enjoyed by those who
enjoy these genres. I highly recommend this story for those
who enjoy paranormal romance.
