"A mystical, gothic story about hereditary witches"
Drake family prophesy says the Seven Sisters will each find
true love starting with the oldest sister to the next
younger one. (First story of this series is short story
MAGIC IN THE WING found in the anthology LOVER BEWARE. I
recommend you read this first.) In this story, the 2nd Drake Sister, Kate decides it is
time to 'come home' to Sea Haven and plans to open a
bookstore. Local contractor, former U.S. Army Ranger Matt
Granite is working on the remodeling of the old mill for
her. He has loved Kate for years but love takes a kind of
bravery and skill that Matt feels he is lacking. An earthquake cracks the mill's foundation and Kate senses
an evil essence has been released. It will take all seven
sisters' powers to battle the evil threatening to destroy
Kate, Sea Haven and Christmas. THE TWILIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS had a mystical, gothic feel
rather than intrigue. The suspense and supernatural were
balanced in the story as well as the sense of balance in
the mix of action and romance. We meet secondary characters
and learn more of the rest of the Drake sisters which we
should be seeing as this series continues. It is a personal quirk, but even though well done in the
story, I prefer not to have 'holiday theme' in stories that
are part of a series unless it is a short story. Reading
about Christmas in July just leaves something missing from
the mental backdrop (or maybe I should have Aussie friends
send US some winter weather?)
