"Another heart-stirring Carpathian story"
DARK DESIRE begins twenty-five years after DARK PRINCE
where we first met a pleasantly laid-back Jacques
Dubrinsky, brother to the prince. It is not necessary to
read the first book to appreciate this story although I
believe you will enjoy it more if you do read the series in
order. The unbelievable has happened - Jacques, an ancient and
powerful Carpathian, was betrayed. He was handed to vampire
hunters who tortured, then buried him and he has remained
barely alive for seven years. His memory shattered, he has
no idea why he has mental contact with American surgeon
Shea O'Halloran, but she is his only link to life. He
haunts her and finally compels her to come to him. Shea has a rare blood disorder and needs transfusions to
remain alive. This has brought her to the attention of the
same vampire hunters who think they killed Jacques. As she
flees these hunters, she decides to go to her father's
homeland in the Carpathian Mountains. When she takes a walk
in the woods, she is drawn to Jacques and risks her life to
free him and save his life and sanity. Unwittingly bound together, Shea and Jacques must not only
confront the vampire hunters, but try to figure who was his
betrayer. Until that time they can trust no one, not even
those who introduce themselves as Jacques's fellow
Carpathians. Jacques will never be as he was and must face as many
difficult life realities as Shea. Both Shea and Jacques are
strong individuals that you care for. The romance is steamy
and in the end "love conquers all" but the price is high.
The dark aspects of torture, abuse and revenge are
expressed in the story but are offset by love and positive
life choices enough that the story is haunting but not
terrifying. It is fun to know that the characters come to life for
everyone. In this printing, Ms Feehan shares a personal
note about howJacques compelled her to write his story
before Gregori's.
