Governor Reuel Shatar of the planet Pyrali knows it is his obligation to marry in order to insure the birth of the next Cadish of the Seventh House. His advisor Minlim stuns him when he learns that the chosen woman is an Earthling considered by many to be the most irresponsible, impulsive species in THE ALLIANCE. The close genetic ties between Reuel's Adarian race and the Earthling Christa Kirklan makes her womb a sure shot to produce the needed male heir. Currently incarcerated for speaking her mind, Christa has the choice of marrying Reuel or being exiled to a frozen asteroid. She chooses what she considers the lesser of two evils, while pledging to help her race when she becomes part of the ruling party. Reuel struggles with Christa's brazen opinions, but to his shock he falls in love with her anyway. Even more amazing is that Christa has fallen in love with her chauvinist husband. Will that love prove the beginning of the end of the reign of Shatar or will it strengthen the bond? THE ALLIANCE is a complex science fiction romance that escorts readers into a wide range of social issues. The story line works because the audience believes that the planet Pyrali and other worlds exist due to the detail of the social system created by Patricia Waddell. Reuel is a great character struggling between his heritage towards females and the new woman he married. Christa is learning that criticizing is easier than ruling. Ms. Waddell provides one FROM THE HEART with this fabulous tale that calls for future trips into THE ALLIANCE.

Reuel Shatar, the handsome Governor of Pyrali and its three moons, is noble to his galactic core and duty bound to produce the next ruler of the Alliance. His choice is to blackmail a beautiful dissident into his mating chamber or have the House of Shatar fall into disgrace.

Christa Kirklan is as stubborn as her Earthling heritage and as unpredictable as a cosmic storm. Faced with exile to a frigid asteroid for her treasonous dialogue, or marriage to the man who represents everything she hates, Christa reluctantly chooses marriage.

What better arena to voice her discontentment with the empires prejudice and archaic social culture than the Alliance's own dais? What better way to raise her people from outcasts to noble citizens than to put an Earthling on the future throne of the galaxy?
