"A Charming tale about what it takes to be a family"
At long last Amelia Gallagher is free to pursue her own
dreams. When her mother died, Mia had willingly put her
own education on hold, and had gone to work as a
receptionist at the Perry Square law firm of Wagner,
McDuffy, Chambers, and Donovan in order to put her two
younger brothers through college. She has no regrets for
the sacrifices she's made and has enjoyed her job and the
people she works with, except for one.... Larry MacKenzie is well liked by just about everyone, but
for some reason the handsome lawyer has always rubbed Mia
the wrong way. As part of the firms pro bono quota, Mac had
recently made a will for Marian O'Keefe, a young expectant
mother. Although Mac barely knew her, Marian had named him
her baby's guardian in the event that something happened to
her. Less than a year later, fate had made him just and
Mac is determined to find seven-month-old Katie a loving
adoptive family. A family that would be the very opposite
of the one he'd been born into. Mac's parents had never had time to give to their only
child and had eventually passed him on to an aunt. When the
aunt had become ill, Mac had moved in with his best friend
and his parents. It was the first time he had ever
experienced the real love of a family. That is what he
wanted for Katie. That is what he knew he couldn't give,
given the genes he'd been born with. For the time being though, he was all she had, and he
didn't have a clue what to do with her. Calling a truce he
asks Mia for her help. Adorable little Katie appeals to Mia
every bit as much as she appeals to Mac and Mia agrees to
help him out, for the baby's sake of course. When a heavy
lake effect snow storm hits, Mia is forced to spend the
night with Katie and Mac. The more time the two spend
together the more they find that there is more to like than
dislike about each other. Soon the two begin to wonder if
their love for Katie is all they have in common. Why is Mia
having dreams that involve a certain kiss and more, and why
is Mac finding it so hard to find the perfect adoptive home
for their shared charge? The search for the perfect parents for Katie leads Mac back
to the only real home he's ever had. Will Mac learn what it
means to be a family before it's too late? Be My Baby is fraught with typical Holly Jacobs humor.
Along with Mia's boss, the reader will recognize the true
feelings beneath all of Mac and Mia's bickering. Those who
are new to Perry Square will get a taste of some of the
other folk who make up the little business district as they
come to Mac and Mia's assistance, and will want to snap up
the two previous tales. Be My Baby is a touching tale of
two people who come to learn what it takes to be a family. Copyright © 2004
