"fine political romance"
In New Skye, North Carolina, angry developer Adam DeVries
decides he has had enough of the corruption and other
questionable activities of the Mayor Tate and the Council
who seem to always find a way to make money at the city's
expense. The latest rezoning trick propels Adam to take
action. He plans to run for mayor, but has a minor
problem. He has a severe case of stuttering and only three
months to overcome it if he is to be taken seriously by the
voters. He turns to town newcomer, speech therapist Phoebe Moss for
help. Though she insists ninety days is not enough, Phoebe
finds his enthusiasm quite catching and agrees to help
him. To hide his impediment from the media, Phoebe and
Adam pretend they are seeing one another, but rather
quickly both want the sham to be real and permanent. Though how the media failed to know that Adam stuttered
seems off kilter and his deception seems wrong for someone
as ethical as Diogenes was seeking, readers will enjoy this
political romance that encourages everyone to seek his or
her dreams. Ben and Abby are a fine couple, but the
townsfolk make the tale with readers seeing individuals
making up the delightful support cast and that leads to a
delightful look at small town living and loving. Harriet Klausner
