"Great mystery - clever twists kept me clueless until the finish"

Jonathon Paxton CEO of Paxton Publishing is definitely less than pleased. He can't fathom why one of his most successful author would turn her back on her phenomenally successful career. Determined to change her mind and protect his company's interests he travels across the country in search of the elusive Renata Trotter. Instead of the elderly lady he expects, he finds a fiery young woman who refuses to yield to his demands. Jonathon finds himself fascinated with her and agrees upon a compromise, but there is something very familiar about that manuscript...

Successful novelist Cassie Elliot has made a career from writing historical novels under her pseudonym Renata Trotter. With eight successful novels behind her, she knows what her fans expect from her new book, but this time her imagination has taken her to a more immediate past. All of her previous tales came to her in dreams and this one was no different. Regardless of the friction the change in style is causing with her publisher, she knows this is the story she has to tell. What she doesn't know is that her dreams are of past lives and she has been writing about her own death and this time the murderer is still alive and will stop at nothing to prevent her from finishing the story... Even if it means killing her again.

SHADES OF YESTERDAY is a tale of suspense and intrigue with enough paranormal aspects to make things interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed following Cassie and Jonathon as they raced against time to solve a thirty-year-old murder before the killer could intervene. Although I did feel the first few chapters were a little rushed, especially the developing relationship between the hero and heroine, the story did even itself out the further I read.

In my opinion, one of the most important things about a mystery is that you are kept guessing about the identity of the killer without losing interest. Susan Grace certainly achieves that, with well-written characters and a clever twist she kept me clueless until the finish. Any reader looking for old fashioned murder mystery with plenty of family intrigue and budding romance in the mix will certainly want to give SHADES OF YESTERDAY a try.
