SummaryExcerpt from
The Duchess Diaries,
Volume One Dearest Lara, You have, by now, been told of my plan for you to make a
match during your first Season, despite your lack of a
dowry or any desire for a husband. As your grandmother, I
know it's your nature to accept all challenges. On your
way, then. But first, some advice from my diaries. If you
must act scandalously, make sure you're not recognized.
Always act clever; it will make everyone realize that you
are clever. And never take anyone at face value... Excerpt from the Diary of Lady Lara Darling Dearest Diary, I have not even made it to London, and I have broken all of
Grandmother's rules. As is my wont, I did something
horribly scandalous, was not at all clever, and was misled
by first impressions. But, as it turned out, the
distractingly handsome man I believed unworthy of second
thoughts (aside from a gasp of appreciation for his
physical attributes) merits many more indeed. Which means I
should never see him again, don't you think? Or will I muck that up as well?
