Summary

The novels are set in an "alternate" Scranton, PA, where werewolves, vampires, and other "denizens of the night" are recognized and accepted, if not always trusted. And since supernatural creatures ("supes," as they are called by insensitive mortals) sometimes break the law, there have to be specially trained police to deal with them. Stan Markowski is one of those cops. He's a Detective Sergeant on the Scranton PD's Supernatural Crimes Investigation Unit (which everybody calls "The Supe Squad"). As Stan puts it in the first book, "When a vampire puts the bite on an unwilling victim, or some witch casts the wrong kind of spell, that's when they call me. My name's Markowski. I carry a badge."
