Summary

The surface dwellers had no inkling of the denizens of middle Earth until the two worlds collided when the Spirit Lifters ignored the laws of their people to prey upon them, slaughtering all within their path, draining them of blood and life and, finally, their souls, as well.

Sarkinda had come to find comfort in the being she saw in both waking-visions and sleep, to believe he was her spirit guardian, but when he captured her and whisked her to his dark world it began to seem painfully clear her trust had been misplaced. He desired her, but he was a blood drinker as the other ‘demons’ were who preyed upon her people.
