In 1997, Janet graduated summa cum laude with a BS in History from Texas Woman\'s University, and in 2000, earned a Master\'s in Library and Information Science. In 2004, she and her daughter created Novel Vision Web Design, a web development company that caters to writers and other professionals in the publishing industry.

Her hobbies include building computers, collecting rubber duckies, crocheting, building dollhouses, reading, genealogy, and playing video games.
