Mining Engineer by day, writer by night, Australian-born Anna Hackett grew up a reader with no dreams of being a writer. Her career in mining has taken her all around the world, introduced her to her English-American husband, Karl, and spawned her desire to try her hand at writing.
"I wasn't one of those kids who was always writing stories, I was too busy reading," Anna notes. But in 2006, on a work trip to a gold mine, something changed. "I figured I'd read so many romances, how hard could it be to write one... little did I know!"
She bought some How To books and started writing. "As a teen, I raided my mother's romances and my father's shelves of action adventure books," she remembers, "so no surprise I love writing action adventure stories with a strong dose of romance." Add in a lifetime love of ancient history and mythology (she's been to Egypt twice) and paranormal romance was a perfect fit.
Anna says the best thing she did was join the Romance Writers of America and learned more about writing than she'd guessed existed. She is now a member of several writers groups, loves connecting with other writers, and sharing her knowledge by teaching online and presenting. She also learned the importance of grabbing every opportunity that presents itself. In 2008 she entered a pitch contest on Harlequin's website and was selected to pitch her short story, Savage Dragon online to a Harlequin editor. The story sold and Anna found herself with an editor.
After three years in beautiful Denver, Colorado, Anna and Karl currently live in an isolated mining town in northern Australia. When she's not wearing her boots and hard hat, Anna is at her computer working on her paranormal romances or her action adventure stories.
