Donna Kauffman is an award-winning, nationally bestselling author of 26 contemporary romance novels. Her first book, ILLEGAL MOTION, was published in 1993 by Bantam Loveswept. This book was nominated for a Reviewer's Choice Award for Best First Book and she was nominated for a Career Achievement Award in Romantic Suspense from Romantic Times Magazine that year. After writing 14 books for Bantam's Loveswept line, Donna is now writing single title contemporary romance for Bantam. Her first, THE LEGEND MACKINNON, was released in April 1999 and is currently in its fifth printing. It was one of Amazon's Top Ten Spectacular Sleepers of 99. It has won a RIO Dorothy Parker Award for Best Paranormal and placed second for Best Book of the Year. It was also nominated for a Golden Quill, won a Romantic Times Top Pick, a Barnes & Noble Top 5 Pick and a Romance Communications Reviewers Award. LEGEND OF THE SORCERER went to a second printing even before it hit the shelves. It's won a Reviewers Choice
Donna also writes for Harlequin's Temptation and Blaze lines. Her first Temptation, WALK ON THE WILD SIDE was the top bestselling category romance for Amazon that same week. It was a finalist in the National Readers Choice Awards for Best Short Contemporary. Her first Blaze, HER SECRET THRILL won the National Readers Choice Award for Best Erotic Romance. The spin off of that book, HIS PRIVATE PLEASURE, out in July 02, made the Waldenbooks Bestseller list and ranked as high as #123 on Barnes&Noble.com. It was also nominated for Best Blaze of 2002 by Romantic Times. There is another spin off slated for January 2003, titled AGAINST THE ODDS. Her most recent Temptation, CARRIED AWAY, out in April 2002 and part of Harlequin's popular Wrong Bed miniseries, is nominated for a ROSE Award from TheWordOnRomance.com.
She had two releases this August. THE CHARM STONE is a contemporary paranormal set mostly in Scotland. Regarding CHARM STONE, New York Times Bestselling author Linda Howard has said, "Sexy, fun...the touch of magic shines through every page." Publisher's Weekly stated, "This summer beach read is sure to make waves."
Also out in August was her first release for Kensington Brava, a novella titled AND WHEN THEY WERE BAD, part of the I LOVE BAD BOYS anthology (with Lori Foster and Janelle Denison.) I LOVE BAD BOYS hit the USA Today extended list for two weeks and sat on the Waldenbooks bestseller list for a month. It is still ranked in the top thirty for Barnes & Noble trade paperbacks. She will be featured in another Bad Boys anthology, BAD BOYS ON BOARD, in April 2003.
In addition to the January Blaze and April Brava release, she will also be featured in Harlequin's MEN OF COURAGE anthology in May, with a spin off Temptation, SEAN, from that anthology coming out in July. Her most exciting news, however, is a new release from Bantam, slated for June 2003 release in trade paperback -- THE BIG BAD WOLF TELLS ALL. NYT Bestselling author Janet Evanovich quoted the book, saying, "Women everywhere will be taking Big Bad Wolf to bed with them. Donna Kauffman writes smart, sexy, with sizzle to spare!"
Donna has been a member of RWA since 1991, the same year she joined Washington Romance Writers. She served on their board of directors for five years, her last year as immediate past president. She was awarded their Lifetime Achievement award for 2001. She lives in Virginia, surrounded by a menagerie including her husband, two sons, two terriers, two parrots and two hamsters. If they build an ark, she's all set.
