I was born in Russia. English is my second language - I learned it when I was fifteen. I came to US on a scholarship (with a grand total of $60 to my name), graduated from Rabun Gap Nachoochee High School in Georgia, attended Western Carolina University, majoring in Biochemistry. And then I fell in love with an ex-sailor, fresh out of US Navy and majoring in history. Falling in love caused problems. Eventually for those and other reasons my scholarship was cut. I married the man I fell in love with, despite opposition from both families. We had two daughters and we were pretty much dirt-poor. Gordon dropped out of college and joined the army. For the next four years we lived all over the country, GA, NC, OK, TX. Finally he got out, finished his degree, and we moved once again across country to Savannah, GA, where Gordon now works as a HR coordinator and I work as a legal secretary by day and a professional author by night. |
