Rowan West

When I was about ten I was convinced my career would be on the Broadway stage. That dream was released long ago (small problem of talent). However, I never gave up the fantasy of being able to make up my own name. A stage name then became a pen name now. Rowan West is the pseudonym of a 40 year old wife, mother and writer who is currently living in Massachusetts and is happy to be living proof that life gets better as you get older (regardless of what happens to your hips).

I was raised a Jersey Girl (and still am at heart), and a Coloradoan by birth. I moved to Massachusetts to attend Wellesley College and then never left. When I met my future husband in December 1994, my fate was sealed. Now both of my sons root for New England sports teams, not New York teams (sorry, Dad). They are , thankfully, big diner fans and know the difference between the beach and the shore.

In my various professional choices I have worked in a hotel (including housekeeping - much to my mom's amusement and bewilderment), been a head hunter, a non-profit fund raiser and event planner, and had a direct selling business. Through it all, I knew that what I truly wanted was to be a published fiction writer. Fortunately, my desire was stronger than the critical voice in my head and now this wonderful dream has come true.

The quote at the top of this page is from a favorite erotica author of mine. Anais Nin was a bold writer who's fiction includes her own journals. She believed her life was hers to make up as she chose. Like Anais, I have often lived for pleasure and passion, although I wasn't always aware of this. I think had I been born into a different time, I would have chosen a life other than one of marriage and children, but rather one where my ability to give and receive pleasure would be the focus of my vocation. Instead, entrenched firmly in the 21st century, I will find passion where I can, and live vicariously though my characters and those of other writers.
