Karen used to say she was your worst nightmare: a dance critic who thinks she can choreograph. Now, with the publication of /The Chalice of Life/, she can change that to "your worst nightmare: a fantasy fan who thinks she can write." She includes elements of everything she loves in what she writes: two of her main characters are a dancer and a musician, her books are laced with elements of mystery, puzzles (think the old Infocom games like Sorcerer and Zork), a bit of science, a pervasive sense of spirituality, and romance that unfolds naturally over the course of the series. The entire world and culture of Caros came to her in a series of dreams, and she likes to escape her Utah home and vacation there with her husband, son, and three cats.
