Angel Smits

Angel Smits has spent the past twenty years dividing her energies in the pursuit of her two passions: writing romantic fiction and working with the elderly, especially those with Alzheimer’s disease and Dementia.

She wrote her first love story when she was fifteen and began working as a nurses’ aide in a nursing home when she was seventeen. She’s been involved in both fields ever since.

Angel received her degree in Gerontology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1982, but learned the most about the care of seniors through day-to-day contact with them and their families. First in the role of social worker, and then as the director of several secured units in Colorado, Angel developed the skills she now shares through her lectures and writing.

In 2002 she co-founded the care management, consulting firm, Care Decisions, LLC. Her articles have appeared in WILD WEST MAGAZINE, THE PRIEST MAGAZINE and local publications such as INBIZ and THE UTE PASS VACATION GUIDE. This year, 2005, her book WHEN REASONING NO LONGER WORKS: A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO DEALING WITH DEMENTIA & ALZHEIMER'S CARE will be released by Thornton Publishing.

Much of what she’s learned about life from the seniors she’s worked with influences her fiction writing as well. In 1996, she was awarded the Golden Heart award from Romance Writers of America and has won numerous local contests for her writing. Her first novel length fiction, a paranormal romance, MEMORY WHISPERS was released by ImaJinn Books in 2004 and has received top reviews from Romance Reviews Today and Fallen Angel Reviews. Her second book from ImaJinn is tentatively titled, RAGING SPIRITS.

Angel lives in Colorado with her husband, two teenagers, two beagles and lone cat. She’s still dividing her time between her two passions, but has finally found a way to combine them. So far it’s working.
