Mr. Handler, a pleasant fellow from San Francisco, bears an uncanny resemblance to Lemony Snicket, the mysterious author of bestselling children’s books.

Daniel Handler has had a relatively uneventful life, and is the author of three books for adults, The Basic Eight, Watch Your Mouth, and Adverbs, none of which are anywhere near as dreadful as Mr. Snicket's.

The 13 books in A Series of Unfortunate Events chronicle resourceful orphans Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire in the midst of gleefully unbearable calamities.
