PhyllisAnn Welsh is the alter ego of Penny Hussey. When she decided to publish her fantasy world, a pen name seemed the best way to go. Since her husband always liked her maiden name, Penny decided to use it, because she loves to humor her husband whenever she can (g)!
Penny was born in a far away land, too many years ago to count. She is the mother of 4-1/2 children (5th adoption not yet final) ages 6 to 18, and the wife of her high school sweetheart. She works at home as a writer and is the Grand Duchess of Romance Foretold, a unique Cyber Haven for writers, readers and artists on the internet. Penny has written and directed three award-winning regional plays, performed as a professional storyteller, actor, muscian, and was the chairman and organizer for local town-wide Octoberfest for three years. She received Special Certificates of Achievement from the town government, as well as an award for "Excellence in Community Service" from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is on the Board of Directors for the local community theater, is the choir director at her church, and is a member of the Douglas Cultural Council.
She worked as a free lance reporter for a local newspaper for a while, even having her own monthly column. But she soon realized fiction was what she wanted to do. The non- fiction gig was a bit of a bore! She'd always written stories about dragons and elves, warriors and wizards, sexy heros and strong heroines, and so in 1997, with the wholehearted encouragement of her wonderful spouse, Penny decided to see if she could publish a story or two.
After winning or placing in a number of RWA chapter contests, she gained the attention of a prominent agent in New York. Her first book, THE BINDING, was submitted to a few print houses under a different title. While the publishers found the writing to be fresh, and the story intriguing, the fact that the hero was an Elf put them off, and they chose not to acquire it. Finally, one of the major print houses in New York decided they might buy it, if some major changes took place. They suggested the location of the story be changed and that the next two books of the series forgotten altogether. Needless to say, Penny declined their offer and began looking at e-publishing.
Penny is excited to be a part of the new and ground- breaking experience of Electronic Publishing, and looks forward to being one of the pioneer authors in this media. She believes strongly that the future of books (and authors everywhere) is in E-publishing.
When asked how she has time to do all the things she does, Penny answers, "I'll do anything to get out of housework!"
